Cherry received the award for her efforts with the Australian Women’s Open team in Scotland, as well as for her successful foray into the Australian Rugby Sevens squad. 2011 was a big year for Cherry, which saw her captain the Australian Women’s 20’s team in their 3-0 series win against New Zealand in the 2011 Youth Trans Tasman Series, where she was also named as one of the Ron Hanson Medallists (flag bearers) for the event. She then captained the Queensland Fire in the inaugural Elite Eight series, before being the youngest player in the Australian Women’s Open team that travelled to Scotland for the World Cup. john lloyd cincinnati butch jonesLast week, a number of rumors regarding Tennessee head coach Butch Jones – including a claim that he punched a player this past summer during practice – made the rounds on social media. This Monday, Jones commented on the rumor, calling it “absolutely ridiculous.” Wednesday night, one of Jones’ former players made an interesting claim on Twitter regarding the situation.Former Cincinnati punter John Lloyd, who played for Jones from 2010-2012, told his followers that he saw Jones hit players “multiple times” during his time with the Bearcats. During the win, USC wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster knocked a Utah defender clear out of the field of play with a nasty stiff-arm. It’s been speculated that Smith-Schuster was pointing at the defender to call him out to come get stiff-armed, but it looks like he was just trying to signal for more downfield blocking. Nasty play though.
Mauricio Pochettino has offered a cryptic response to questions about Christian Eriksen’s future, with the Tottenham midfielder yet to sign a new contract. The Denmark international is one of few senior stars yet to pen a long-term extension to his current deal, and unsurprisingly rumours have arisen regarding his future. As one of the most productive creative influences in the Premier League, a number of leading sides across Europe are keeping a close eye on his situation in north London. La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid would welcome the opportunity to snap up a player of Eriksen’s pedigree, and the transfer door may swing open at some stage.Pochettino has been unable to close it, and when quizzed on his efforts to tie the key man down a long-term contract, he said: “Football is so dynamic. It changes every day, every season.”It depends not only on your decision, but it is always a player’s decision.”Now is a moment to enjoy our present.”Of course, it is a person that the club wants for the future, but now we need to be focused – a player like him is focused and tries to deliver a great performance in the way that we need.“A decision is going to happen at the end of the season or [maybe] a decision will happen in the next few days, in January.”Football is so dynamic – it is decision, decision, decision.”I hope we are going to take the best decision for the club and hope the player can take the best decision for them and for the club – it is about negotiation and many things that happen.”Football is so dynamic, always you need to move on.”So, Pochettino has suggested that an agreement could be reached in January. He has also conceded that Spurs may need to “move on”.With little clarity being offered by those at Tottenham, it remains to be seen what the future has in store for a man who has delivered four goals and seven assists this season.

LAWRENCE, KS – OCTOBER 11: Fans hold a University of Kansas school flag during the playing of the nation anthem prior to a game against the Oklahoma State Cowboys at Memorial Stadium on October 11, 2014 in Lawrence, Kansas. (Photo by Ed Zurga/Getty Images)The college football coaching carousel starts earlier and earlier each year. For Kansas head coach David Beaty and ECU’s Scottie Montgomery, the end could be very close. The failure of the Kansas football staff has been on front street this week. The Jayhawks fell in overtime to the FCS-level Nicholls Colonels on Saturday evening. The Nicholls loss is Kansas football’s second to an FCS program in four years under David Beaty. Beaty’s Jayhawks only have three wins total—two against FCS opponents and one stunning upset of Charlie Strong’s Texas Longhorns—to go with 34 losses. On Tuesday, athletic director Jeff Long, who came over after around a decade at Arkansas, put out a statement of support for the football program. Any time an athletic director feels the need to do that after Week 1, it is a bad sign.David Beaty isn’t the only coach on the hot seat that is in very immediate danger of losing his job.Scottie Montgomery hasn’t been much better at ECU. The Pirates brought in the former Duke staffer after making the deeply questionable move of firing Ruffin McNeil, who was 42-34 as head coach, despite a pretty big move up from Conference USA competition to the AAC.McNeil’s Pirates were 8-5 in their first year of AAC play. They took a step back to 5-7, and he was fired, despite it being just his second season without a bowl.Montgomery started his tenure with a pair of 3-9 records, and is 3-13 in AAC play. This year, ECU’s opener was postponed from Saturday to Sunday morning due to storms in the area.Pirate fans probably wish it was just cancelled.Like Kansas, ECU fell to an FCS program, North Carolina A&T. The Aggies pulled out a 28-23 win at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. With back-to-back ACC foes coming up in North Carolina and Virginia Tech, it isn’t getting any easier for Montgomery and his team.ECU falls to NC A&T, 28-23. The Pirates ran 35 more offensive plays and covered 113 more yards than the Aggies but still lost. These are the only players and students who stuck around for the alma mater. The rest, including HC Scottie Montgomery, left the field. pic.twitter.com/gIGySMapQg— Tyler Feldman (@TylerFeldmanTV) September 2, 2018Montgomery predicted a bowl at the start of the season. He probably needs one to save his job. This loss cannot be overstated.Scottie Montgomery guaranteed a bowl appearance and just dropped the season opener vs. N.C. A&T.— Josh Graham (@_JoshDGraham) September 2, 2018Entering the season, the only games that college football analytics expert Bill Connelly of SB Nation gave ECU a 50-percent chance or better of winning were against N.C. A&T and UConn on Nov. 17. The only other game over 30-percent was Old Dominion in Week 5. All of those numbers are going to tumble with this loss. Both Beaty and Montgomery are almost definitely losing their jobs by the time the season is out. The only real question is how long their respective athletic directors wait, with angry fans banging down their doors.

MIAMI, FL – DECEMBER 29: Kyler Murray #1 of the Oklahoma Sooners reacts in the fourth quarter during the College Football Playoff Semifinal against the Alabama Crimson Tide at the Capital One Orange Bowl at Hard Rock Stadium on December 29, 2018 in Miami, Florida. (Photo by Michael Reaves/Getty Images)Former star Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray is considered a top prospect for the NFL Draft, though many within the league have concerns with his size. Murray is not only short for an NFL quarterback, but he’s also on the slender side.Murray isn’t that much shorter than successful NFL quarterbacks like Russell Wilson and Drew Brees, though he’s a decent amount lighter than them. The Heisman Trophy winner is apparently trying to change that.Peter King is reporting that Murray has added some weight ahead of the combine. From his report:One bit of Murray news before we move on. The new Mike Mayock at NFL Network, Daniel Jeremiah—talk about big shoes to fill—told me over the weekend that he heard Murray has bulked up to 203 pounds from his OU playing weight of 190. And calling around over the weekend, I heard it was 206. That is significant. Here’s why: Talking to NFL people about Murray, as I wrote last week, there was worry that Murray had more of a Mookie Betts build in college than a Russell Wilson physique. Meaning Murray was not only small, but also slight. If Murray has spent the past five or six weeks bulking up, that would play in his favor at the combine and in completing scouting reports on a complex prospect, because teams want to see a thicker player than Murray was at OU. Theoretically, it would mean he’d be more equipped to withstand the pounding he’ll obviously have to face in the NFL.Murray has not yet decided if he is going to throw at the NFL Combine, but it appears he could at least do better than expected with his measurements. The NFL Scouting Combine begins on Tuesday. It’ll be televised on the NFL Network.
